US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday once again suggested the international community should show gratitude for President Donald Trump’s illegal war with Iran, which has led to a global oil supply shock and created the potential for food shortages in the coming months.

Speaking with reporters at the Pentagon, Hegseth defended the president’s decision to launch a war of choice with Iran that so far has cost US taxpayers an estimated $60 billion.

Peter Hegseth is a failed human being. A stain in modern time. He is part of a greater calamity this timeline has witnessed called the MAGA movement and the Trump Administration. They are the destroyer of worlds, the Anti-Christ. The pestilence. The plague. The apocalypse. The four horsemen all wrapped up into one package.

I agree with the sentiment, but can we please quit it with the Christian eschatology analogies? There are enough nutbags out there drawing the same comparisons as it is, except they take them literally and find them encouraging.

Plus, in my opinion, the more we equate these people with mythological figures of doom and dread, the harder it becomes to feel like we can actually do anything about them.

Drunk Uncle Pete is promoting it as a holy war.

This is the guy that breaks into your home, steals your stuff, shoots your dog, then sues you because he twisted his ankle climbing out the window.

It's absolutely wild how delusional the Rump administration is. Like they have to truly know how bad they fucked up....right?

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No. Trump is a strong narcissist. He only believes things that make himself feel good. It really is that weird.

But his supporters know what they're doing, unless they're drunk or stoned, which is often.

[–] Skankhunt420@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Most of his supporters that I have met are methheads or into other hard drugs. Although several were into alcohol as well and didn't do any other drugs.

But hey don't bring the stoners into this! Lol

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Did it come with a gift receipt?

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 weeks ago

Hegseth and Trump's one gift to the world is their gross incompetence showing us that relying solely on oil and gas any longer is a folly, in a way that no environmentalist ever could.

I didn’t know this stooge spoke German

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Drunken idiotic cunt says cuntish things due to being one of the world's biggest cunts in recent history. Then cowards parrot his cunt words instead of being reporters or doing any real journalism.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

The ridiculous shit Russian officials say for internal political consumption make a bit more sense now. Just like Hegseth is really only talking to Trump and the Maga base.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He wants us to say thank you

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Pity none of us can afford suits

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Kegsbreath dying would be a gift to the world.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

A very small gift, try all Republicans or at least all MAGA republicans, then you may be onto something.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

What the fuck is he on about.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We have to keep track of the horse in the hospital, unfortunately...

[–] Floon@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

We're a gnat's eyelash away from zero consensus reality, no agreed facts, and a permanent upper class filled with twats like Hegseth.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (10 children)

We should be thankful for the US continuing the fight to undo the problems the US caused when they illegally invaded Iran?

Thanks a lot

In this particular case, I don't get what's in it for them. Of course they generally want more power and wealth, while ignoring everything else. But is this also really about that? If so, how? Also they are alienating even a big portion of their stupid base with stunts like this. It doesn't seem useful, any way I look at it. It doesn't seem lawful evil or neutral evil like they usually are. It seems chaotic evil.

[–] notabot@piefed.social 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It mostly seems to have been a setup for certain people to make a lot of money insider trading, to distract people from the epstein files, distract people from israel's attrocities in Gaza, and because trump is desperate to be seen as big, tough, and above all, successful, when he is none of those things.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 3 points 2 weeks ago

And also it enabled Russia to sell a lot of oil.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Haven't you seen the Dow, everyone?

Let's all hold hands and pray to thank American, white billionaire Jesus now.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

in all the times the us has broad freedom. never has the freedom been rougher and more extreme. Anyone else want some freedom. Do ya. DO YA!

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago

No, this is pretty much how they have always been. Ask Hawaii. Difference is now a small number of Americans are becoming sentient.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 2 weeks ago

The Trump admin definitely ain't the party of freedoms. Hes the party of backsliding constitutional rights like birthright citizenship, suffrage, bodily autonomy, freedom of speech, right to bare arms, etc.
