Chuck Norris is also dead. He died March 19th of this year.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 34 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Those Nokias aren't dead, they were just abandoned by the infrastructure. Pop in a new battery and you'll be playing snake in no time.

IE zombie mode is technically still a thing.

[–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 24 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Is Bieber a has been? Didn't he just headline at Coachella?

[–] Zorcron@lemmy.zip 26 points 5 days ago

It’s fascinating really. He went directly from a wanna-be to a has-been, directly bypassing the state of “being”. Scientific studies have been conducted on the phenomenon, but it is still a mystery as to how this happened.

I feel like Justin Bieber deserves better than this for what he had to go through

As a web dev, I feel awkward reminiscing about the thin period of web history when IE was a solidly built, standards-compliant browser.

It was like the IE team saw their history was causing them to lose all market share, and committed to fixing misdeeds since they held an underdog position. But for most, it was too little too late.

For several years, I tested in IE, not Chrome, because it was most strictly standards-compliant, and I could be sure that if it worked there, it would work in other browsers. (Now, if you use Edge, it’s just a repaint of Chrome)

I miss presto and the old opera browser

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 6 points 4 days ago

I loved Opera for a good couple of years. Came back to it around 2007 and I was shocked at what it became.

The bacon thing was... really weird.

I mean, I like bacon, but... not like enough to make a lifestyle out of it

[–] absentbird@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I heard it was in part a push from the pork industry. They were struggling to get grocery shoppers to keep buying bacon during the anti-fat fads of the 90s, so they spent millions lobbying fast food places and restaurants to make bacon a premium add-on 'bacon makes it better'; then the fast food marketing machine slowly brainwashed a generation into bacon obsession.

[–] Nonprophet@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Ugh. Nothing is even shocking anymore.

[–] anamethatisnt@sopuli.xyz 7 points 4 days ago

I mostly remember Trogdor to be honest.

Kristen stewart = expresionless

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago

I went full-on bacon eating back in 2012 because who cared. A year later I'm fat and slow. Fuck those Mayans.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 26 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Still funnier than skibidi toilet

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 40 points 5 days ago (6 children)

I can't judge anyone for finding Skibidi Toilet funny or amusing. I watched more than my fair share of YTMND, Badger Badger, and Salad Fingers.

Skibidi Toilet isn't really a comedy tho. It's just giant mech fights and apparently the creator of it, some racist Georgian🇬🇪 zoomer lost all the rights to it after being fucked over by some company he signed a contract with.

Yeah, wild lore both in the show itself and in the background. Got into it because my niece fucking loves it and just... no shit, it is a wild time.

Some of that feels much more ~2008ish. But given the lifecycle of memes back then, they still weren't considered antiques in 2012...

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

2012 was peak rage comics. I remember scrolling f7u12 for hours on end. Then one day, it was like a switch flipped and they were all terrible. Almost like post-nut clarity. I don't know if I changed or if they changed. But they instantly became unfunny.

The words Bacon and Epic can't be put side by side without mentioning EpicMealTime.

Man singlehandedly kept that fad alive way longer than it ever should have been. I wonder what they're up to nowadays?

Remember Kony 2012? Remember how everyone thought the world was gonna end? Well Will Wood remembers none of it.

Bacon will forever remain epic, even if it is slowly killing me.
